Language of instruction: | English |
Form of verification: | exam |
ECTS credits: | 2 |
Description: | The module Contemporary trends in Earth sciences presents the latest views and possibilities of applying modern research methods in Earth sciences. The student will be familiarized with the latest research achievements, incl. in the field of geochemistry, mineralogy, geophysics or palaeontology (e.g. Raman Spectroscopy in Earth and Planetary Sciences; Redox Engine of Earth, Lithium: Less is More, Noble Gas Thermochronology, Continental Crust at Mantle Depths, Nitrogen and Its (Biogeocosmo) Chemical Cycling, etc.). The module will be conducted in the form of lectures and exercises. During the lectures (often with invited specialists from a given field), a selected problem will be outlined and will be developed by the student during the exercises. The course will be in English in the form of presentations, during which students will become familiar with the techniques of self-presentation and familiarize themselves with professional terminology. |
Prerequisites: | Basic knowledge from previously courses, like: geochemistry, geophisics, mineralogy, paleontology. |
