General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education:
Education in the second degree Cultural Studies programme is delivered through three pathways: 1) research path – which presents the most important trends in cultural research, teaching knowledge and skills in the analysis and interpretation of various cultural texts, taking into account the perspectives of the sub-disciplines that make up the cultural sciences (including cultural anthropology, film studies, cultural communication, theatrology, literary culture and others); 2) career path – which prepares students for the practical application of the knowledge gained during their studies; 3) development path – which offers tutoring activities designed to help students discern or clarify their research and professional interests and find ways to further them. Cultural Studies is an all-academic programme that emphasises learning, experiencing and acting in the field of culture. The three specialisations (Film Studies, City Cultures, Cultural Participation Practices) are designed to specify and deepen the related knowledge and skills; each student chooses one of them at the end of the first semester to work on his or her master's thesis. Some of the classes may be conducted outside the University, e.g. in museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas and other places. The studies conclude with the preparation of a master's thesis, which is of a research character and is situated in the thematic area specified by the name of the selected specialisation: Film Studies, City Cultures or Cultural Participation Practices.
