General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education: | Studia licencjackie są studiami zawodowymi, nastawionymi na praktyczne stosowanie zdobytej wiedzy.
Program studiów przede wszystkim poszerza i unowocześnia ofertę studiów humanistycznych na Uniwersytecie Śląskim, wypełnia też brak odpowiednio wyszkolonych specjalistów w zakresie
turystyki historycznej. Obok zawsze poszukiwanych pilotów i przewodników wycieczek, coraz częściej poszukiwani są znawcy z zakresu public history, potrafiący uwzględnić w swojej pracy tradycje historyczne i dorobek kulturowy (zwłaszcza regionu poprzemysłowego).
Cele i sposoby kształcenia (obejmujące m.in. zajęcia projektowe) dostosowane zostały do indywidualnych potrzeb, wynikających ze specyfiki kierunku (m.in. potrzeby uzyskiwania wiedzy funkcjonalnej oraz umiejętności praktycznego wykorzystania uzyskanej wiedzy). Proponowany kierunek studiów stwarza nowe możliwości zawodowe. Przygotowuje słuchaczy do podejmowania prac w zakresie upowszechniania historii i dorobku kulturowego. |

Information on the relationship between the studies and the university's strategy as well as the socio-economic needs that determine the conduct of studies and the compliance of learning outcomes with these needs: | Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach w prowadzeniu swojej działalności kieruje się Misją przedstawioną w dokumencie przyjętym przez Senat UŚ w dniu 20 maja 1997 roku oraz przywołaną w Statucie Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach z dnia 28 maja 2019 roku, w którym wskazano także wartości, jakim hołduje społeczność Uniwersytetu.
Turystyka historyczna to kierunek, w szczególny sposób adresowany do mieszkańców aglomeracji śląsko-zagłębiowskiej.
