General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education:
Studia na kierunku filologii klasycznej obejmują intensywny kurs dwóch języków klasycznych (greckiego i łacińskiego) oraz literatury greckiej i rzymskiej. Dodatkowo studenci mają możliwość zapoznania się z historią starożytną i kulturą antyczną oraz szczegółowo z wybranymi aspektami cywilizacji śródziemnomorskich w ramach modułów do wyboru. W trakcie studiów istnieje możliwość intensywnej nauki języka włoskiego, hiszpańskiego lub nowogreckiego (w zależności od uruchomionych kursów). Absolwenci filologii klasycznej są cenionymi nauczycielami języków klasycznych, pracownikami archiwów, specjalistycznych wydawnictw, ale także placówek kulturalnych oraz instytucji związanych z turystyką.
Graduation requirements:
The condition for admission to the diploma examination is to achieve the learning outcomes provided for in the study program, to obtain a certificate of an appropriate level of language proficiency in a foreign language and to obtain positive grades for the diploma dissertation. The condition for graduation is to pass the diploma examination with at least a satisfactory result. A graduate receives a higher education diploma confirming obtaining the qualifications of the appropriate degree. Detailed rules of the diploma process and the requirements for the diploma thesis are set out in the Rules and Regulations of Studies at the University of Silesia and the diploma regulations.

Filologia klasyczna uczy rozumienia i krytycznej interpretacji treści kulturowych zakorzenionych w antyku grecko-rzymskim. Jej rolą jest podtrzymanie i przekazywanie pamięci o przeszłości obejmującej również dziedzictwo narodowe, w tym literaturę tworzoną w Polsce w języku łacińskim.
Specialization: Greek and Latin Philology
General description of the specialization:
Program studiów filologii klasycznej, specjalność grecka i łacińska, obejmuje naukę dwóch języków klasycznych: greckiego i łacińskiego, oraz literatury i kultury antycznej, w tym jej recepcji i kontynuacji w kulturze europejskiej. Oprócz przedmiotów kierunkowych oraz uzupełniających je przedmiotów z zakresu historii starożytnej i kultury antycznej program obejmuje także intensywną naukę języka włoskiego, hiszpańskiego lub nowogreckiego (w zależności od uruchomionych kursów). Absolwenci studiów I stopnia (licencjackich) będą mieli możliwość kontynuowania nauki na studiach II stopnia (magisterskich).
