General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education: | The study program in the field of Political Science the first degree is an expression of an interdisciplinary approach to the issues of political science. The profile of studies is of a general academic nature. Its main goal is to prepare the student to engage in the sphere of broadly understood local and regional politics, to work in public institutions, in parliamentary and senatorial offices, in broadly understood political, economic, social and educational organizations, in government and local government administration bodies, and employment in public relations agencies. The study program provides graduates with advanced knowledge, competencies and skills in the field of political science and administration as well as public policies, which is particularly important in the context of changing new political phenomena, changing socio-political conditions and the dynamics of contemporary challenges and threats and for the security of the individual and its surroundings and the state. Social skills and competencies obtained by graduates of Political Science, thanks to the diffusion of theoretical and practical aspects within the program of study, will provide graduates with multidimensional preparation for their future duties as part of their professional work. The theoretical dimension is implemented by the scientific staff of the Institute of Political Sciences and teaching staff, including researchers in the field of theory of politics and political thought, political systems, international relations and national and international security, social policy, social and political communication, and research on political behaviour.
On the other hand, the practical dimension of the Political Science major is associated with modules taught by specialists and practitioners in law, psychology, institutions and uniformed services. In the above context, it should be emphasized that the program of studies in Political Science, the first degree, has been prepared based on three basic assumptions that significantly impact the graduate's figure and subsequent professional decisions. Education in the theoretical dimension primarily focuses on deepening knowledge about various aspects of politics and preparing to participate in shaping social processes. The graduates should be able to apply the elements of the acquired theoretical knowledge in practice, which is actively supported by the block of practical modules. Education in the suitable dimension releases the graduate the ability to analyze and make political decisions, manage teams, collect and prioritize information, and make an independent, in-depth and scientifically justified analysis of phenomena and processes in public life. A graduate of the first-cycle studies in the field of political science has the general knowledge that allows them to understand phenomena and political processes taking place on a global, regional, state and local scale, as well as to analyze the relationships between the functioning of political institutions, societies and human individuals. They should know the historical conditions and contemporary mechanisms of political systems. The graduate can use the acquired professional work and life knowledge while observing ethical principles. He can solve simple professional problems, participate in teamwork, manage teams performing commissioned tasks, communicate with the environment, and collect, hierarchize, process and transfer information. The graduate knows a modern foreign language at the B2 (Upper intermediate) level of the European System of the Description of Language Education of the Council of Europe, which means that they understand the meaning of the main components of the message contained in complex texts of a political science nature, both in terms of concrete and abstract topics, including understanding discourse in world political science. The graduate can also communicate fluently, enabling conversation with a native language speaker. He can also formulate logical and substantively correct oral and written statements on various topics, including political science threads, and explain his position on matters under discussion, considering all potential solutions. The level of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and competencies that the student will acquire during the first-cycle studies will enable the graduate to continue learning as part of supplementary studies or start independent professional work in public and private institutions and organizations. In addition, the graduate is prepared to undertake second-cycle studies. |
