General description of the specialization: | This programme (specialisation) of studies offers modules in literary studies (including literary history, poetry theory, drama and literary prose) and cultural studies. This educational offer also provides thematic modules in literature and culture as well as practical courses in translation of texts of varied character (literary, cultural, functional texts). The graduate of the specialisation is a well educated English studies professional, whose competencies combine proficiency in English with theoretical knowledge of cultural and literary theory. A comprehensive understanding of the cultural and social mechanisms of the contemporary world prepares the graduates to participate and have a career in the broadly defined area of culture. Apart from the foundation of fact-based knowledge this specialisation aims to develop the graduates' humanistic worldview, focusing mostly on the characteristics of the Western culture. |

Specialization: | Design of Interactive Entertainment and Localization of Games and Software (SPRINT-WRITE) |

General description of the specialization: | The specialisation (Interactive Entertainment Design and Game and Software Localization - SPRINT-WRITE) is a new programme of studies that combines practical competence in the English language with practical competence in game design and theoretical knowledge of cultural, literary and linguistic theory. Thus, the course not only covers the field of English philology, but also prepares for a career in the game development industry. A selection of theoretical humanist modules included in the curriculum, provide a foundation of creative abilities, which are further developed through practice-oriented game design courses. Students also acquire practical, industry-specific competence in translation (game and software localisation). This increases the graduate’s value as a potential employee in game development industry, but also as a self-employed operator (as a translator specializing in game and software localization). The programme is completed with a BA degree.

Internships (hours and conditions): | Program studiów przewiduje odbycie praktyk zawodowych przez studenta w dwóch etapach: w wymiarze 30 godzin do zakończenia trzeciego semestru studiów oraz w wymiarze 90 godzin do zakończenia szóstego semestru studiów. Punkty ECTS zostają przyznane odpowiednio w 3. i 6. semestrze studiów, natomiast praktyka może odbyć się wcześniej.
Celem praktyk jest praktyczne przygotowanie studenta do realizowania przyszłych zadań zawodowych oraz zaznajomienie z realiami pracy w zakładach pracy, których profil działalności umożliwia kształcenie umiejętności opisanych w efektach kształcenia przyjętych dla specjalności studiów. Praktyki umożliwiają studentom gromadzenie doświadczeń w zakresie obserwacji pracy twórczej nad procesem tworzenia gry komputerowej, procesami tłumaczenia i lokalizacji gier i/lub oprogramowania, pracy w zespole twórczym oraz współuczestniczenie w tych procesach. Cele takie realizują ogólne założenia praktyk studenckich: rozwijania umiejętności nabytych podczas studiów, kształtowania umiejętności niezbędnych w przyszłej pracy zawodowej, przygotowanie studenta do samodzielnego wykonywania powierzonych mu zadań oraz wspieranie aktywizacji zawodowej studenta.
Studenci specjalności Projektowanie rozrywki interaktywnej oraz lokalizacja gier i oprogramowania (SPRINT-WRITE) będą odbywać praktyki zawodowe w firmach zajmujących się produkcją lub dystrybucją gier komputerowych i wideo, firmach zajmujących się lokalizacją gier i lokalizacją oprogramowania lub w firmach działających w branży mediów cyfrowych, których profil działalności zapewnia realizację efektów kształcenia przyjętych dla specjalności (na przykład reklama cyfrowa, usługi w zakresie tłumaczenia i lokalizacji serwisów internetowych, etc).
Praktyki przewidziane programem studiów przeprowadzane są zgodnie z przepisami Uniwersytetu Śląskiego dotyczącymi praktyk zawodowych studentów (Zarządzenie Rektora Uniwersytetu Śląskiego nr 41/2007 z późniejszymi zmianami), zatem nadzór dydaktyczny nad praktyką sprawuje opiekun praktyki wyznaczony przez dziekana spośród nauczycieli akademickich wydziału. Studenci poszukują samodzielnie zakładów pracy, w których odbędą praktyki zawodowe, następnie z zakładami tymi podpisana zostaje porozumienie o organizacji praktyki zawodowej studentów Uniwersytetu Śląskiego, wyznaczony zostaje w porozumieniu z kierownictwem zakładu zakładowy opiekun praktyk wewnątrz zakładu pracy, a student zostaje skierowany do odbycia praktyk przez dziekana za pośrednictwem opiekuna praktyk studenckich. Po zakończeniu praktyk student przekazuje raport z przeprowadzonych praktyk, podlegający ocenie zakładowego opiekuna praktyk oraz opiekuna praktyk.

General description of the specialization: | A graduate of BA studies, teaching specialization with German is characterized by thorough general education and high competences in the field of SLA and practical use of English and German. They are characterized by a near-native level of competence in English and German. They have extensive knowledge in the field of history, culture and literature of English-speaking and German-speaking countries. They have also extensive knowledge and well-developed skills concerning teaching methodology and pedagogy and are ready to work as foreign language (English and/or German) teachers.
A graduate is prepared to use their knowledge and language skills at work (e.g. in schools, mass-media such as TV, radio or the Internet, travel agencies etc.).

During or after each observed class a student completes an observation sheet. The sheets are shown to an internship supervisor from the university as a part of official documentation. The evaluated elements include the regularity, correctness and deepness of the observations.
Basing on the observations, students prepare essays on the topics of the observations. The supervisor evaluates the correctness and deepness of the observations, as well as the ability to use them in connection with the knowledge gained during the studies.
Before and after the internship a student presents the internship supervisor with the internship documentation. The supervisor evaluates the correctness, accuracy and promptness of the documentation.
