General description of the programme:
Studenci geografii uczą się rozumienia i interpretowania zasad funkcjonowania środowiska geograficznego oraz działań społeczno-ekonomicznych i kulturowych człowieka w przestrzeni i czasie. Odkrywają współzależności między elementami środowiska przyrodniczego a działalnością człowieka, analizują zachodzące zjawiska i procesy od skali lokalnej do globalnej. Uczą się korzystać z baz danych o środowisku, poznają Systemy Informacji Geograficznej (GIS). Nabywają umiejętności kompleksowej oceny środowiska życia człowieka. Program studiów obejmuje przedmioty kierunkowe geograficzne, przedmioty humanistyczne do wyboru oraz blok przedmiotów pedagogicznych (do wyboru) uprawniających do podjęcia pracy w zawodzie nauczyciela. Integralną częścią studiów są ćwiczenia terenowe odbywające się w miesiącach wakacyjnych.

Uzyskanie dyplomu jest szczegółowo regulowane przez § 29, § 30, § 31, § 32, § 33, § 34 Regulaminu Studiów w Uniwersytecie Śląskim w Katowicach, Załącznik do obwieszczenia Rektora Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach z dnia 14 maja 2012 r.
Internships (hours and conditions):
Celem praktyk, które stanowią integralną część procesu dydaktycznego, jest zapoznanie się studentów z procesem funkcjonowania jednostek gospodarczych, instytucji publicznych, instytucji naukowo-badawczych, instytucji oświatowych, placówek kultury oraz zdobycie praktycznych umiejętności i doświadczenia w wykonywaniu pracy na określonym stanowisku W czasie studiów studenci mają obowiązek odbycia obowiązkowej praktyki zawodowej trwającej nie krócej niż 3 tygodnie. Organizacją zawodowych praktyk studenckich zajmuje się Koordynator Praktyk Studenckich. Praktyki odbywają się w przerwie pomiędzy semestrem letnim i zimowym, po pierwszym, drugim lub trzecim roku studiów zgodnie z ustalonymi przez Koordynatora Praktyk Studenckich planami. Studenci odbywają praktykę w następujących terminach: a) studenci studiów stacjonarnych odbywają praktykę w okresie wakacyjnym po 2, 4, lub 6 semestrze, b) studenci studiów niestacjonarnych mogą odbywać praktykę w okresach innych niż wakacyjne. Plan praktyk na dany rok wymaga akceptacji Dziekana. Na uzasadnioną indywidualną prośbę student może otrzymać zgodę Dziekana na odbycie praktyk w innym terminie. Nadzór nad organizacją praktyk studenckich sprawuje Dziekan Wydziału. Studenci kierowani są do wyznaczonych instytucji w terminach wynikających z planów praktyk. Skierowanie podpisuje Dziekan Wydziału. Nadzór dydaktyczny nad praktyką sprawuje Koordynator Praktyk wyznaczony przez Dziekana. Koordynator Praktyk jest przełożonym studentów odbywających praktykę zgodnie z jej celami i ustalonym programem. Koordynator Praktyk jest zobowiązany do: •wydawania studentom skierowań do zakładu pracy lub do szkoły/placówki pedagogicznej na praktykę pedagogiczną wg wzoru; •zapoznania studentów z programem praktyki w terminie przynajmniej na jeden miesiąc przed jej rozpoczęciem, wskazując rodzaj praktyki, termin jej rozpoczęcia i czas trwania; •odbierania od studentów oświadczeń o zapoznaniu się z zasadami organizacji praktyk wg wzoru •sprawowania nadzoru nad wykonywaniem przez studentów zadań wynikających z programu praktyk; •zapewnienia zgodności przebiegu i ilości godzin dydaktycznych praktyk z jej programem; •rozstrzygania wspólnie z kierownictwem zakładu pracy lub nauczycielem szkoły/placówki pedagogicznej spraw związanych z przebiegiem praktyki; •udzielania pomocy i porad studentom odbywającym praktykę, zwłaszcza wyjaśniania zasad teoretycznych na przykładzie procesów i czynności praktycznych; •kontrolowania przebiegu praktyk, czuwania nad zapewnieniem warunków niezbędnych do prowadzenia praktyki, zgodnie z ustaleniami porozumienia zawartego pomiędzy Uczelnią a zakładem pracy lub odpowiednio z nauczycielem szkoły; •przedkładania dziekanowi sprawozdania z praktyki wraz z oceną jej przebiegu; Student odbywający praktykę uzgadnia miejsce oraz szczegółowy program realizacji praktyk z zakładowym opiekunem praktyk, na podstawie ogólnych założeń praktyk. Instytucji do odbycia praktyk student poszukuje sam. Do obowiązków studenta podejmującego praktykę zawodową należy: •zapoznanie się ze specyfiką i organizacją placówki, w której odbywa praktykę; •znajomość misji, założeń programowych i podstawy prawnej, określającej działalność placówki; •uzgodnienie programu swoich zajęć z zakładowym opiekunem praktyki; •systematyczne prowadzenie dziennika praktyk, w którym powinna znaleźć odzwierciedlenie codzienna praca studenta. Realizacja praktyki odbywa się pod kierunkiem zakładowego opiekuna praktyk. Umowę z instytucją w której będzie się odbywać praktyka podpisuje Dziekan Wydziału Warunkiem zaliczenia praktyk jest ich odbycie, zgodnie z indywidualnym planem praktyk (termin i miejsce) oraz przedstawienie raportu z przebiegu praktyki zawodowej zawierającego między innymi sporządzony przez studenta systematyczny zapis wykonywanych zadań. Odbycie praktyki potwierdza w raporcie opiekun w zakładzie praktyki. Zaliczenia praktyki w indeksie dokonuje Dziekan na podstawie złożonego w dziekanacieraportu. Student może się ubiegać o zaliczenie praktyki na podstawie uzyskanego poza Uczelnią doświadczenia zawodowego. Wszelkie koszty związane z odbywaniem praktyki pokrywa student z wyjątkiem kosztów ubezpieczenia, które pokrywa Uczelnia. Odbywanie praktyki nie zwalnia studenta z obowiązku zaliczania zajęć objętych planem studiów ani też nie jest podstawą do usprawiedliwiania jego nieobecności. Po zakończeniu roku akademickiego, Koordynator Praktyk sporządza sprawozdanie z realizacji praktyk. Sprawozdanie, zatwierdza Dziekan.
Graduation requirements:
Warunkiem ukończenia studiów jest: zaliczenie wszystkich kursów obowiązkowych i zadeklarowanych kursów fakultatywnych, uzyskanie co najmniej 180 punktów ECTS, oraz napisanie pracy dyplomowej, a także pozytywny wynik egzaminu dyplomowego przed komisją egzaminacyjną.

Kierunek geografia uczestniczy w kształceniu studentów Interdyscyplinarnych Programów Studiów Międzywydziałowych oraz Międzywydziałowych Indywidualnych Studiach Matematyczno-Przyrodniczych. Oferta dydaktyczna kierunku jest uatrakcyjniana i unowocześniana zgodnie z aktualnym zapotrzebowaniem rynku pracy. Kierunek geografia prowadzi oficjalną współpracę z licznymi podmiotami otoczenia biznesowego i gospodarczego oraz instytucjami administracji regionalnej. Oferowane na kierunku geografia praktyki zawodowe są kolejną formą współpracy z biznesem i gospodarką, która w sferze dydaktyki podniesie poziom przygotowania absolwentów do wejścia na dynamicznie ewoluujący rynek pracy, kształtując w nich postawę przedsiębiorczości. Kierunek geografia oferuje możliwość wyjazdów na zagraniczne stypendia w ramach programów ERASMUS oraz uczestnictwo w krajowym programie wymiany studentów MOST.
