Description:
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic phonetic and phonological descriptions of the English language. Students are acquainted with ways of describing articulation of English vowels and consonants, with variants of English phonemes, with methods of describing differences between British and American English and with phonological processes characteristic for the English language.

Written tests are conducted throughout the semester, as well as at the end of the semester. 5 – student has broad knowlegde of the subject (which goes beyond the issues discussed during lectures and classes). Student fully understands issues discussed and can describe them in his/her own words (giving relevant examples). 4 – student has good knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes (which does not go beyond the material presented by the lecturer). 3 – student has sufficient knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes, but does not fully understands their complexity. 2 – student has poor knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes, s/he does not understand the issues discussed, and does not know linguistic terminology.
