Description: | The purpose of the course is to present and discuss the most important facts in the history of the USA after 1945 focusing primarily on the position of the USA as a key participant in international processes and social processes defining the American identity after the Second World War. A detailed syllabus will include, among others, the following issues: the USA as the winner of the Second World War and the emergence of the country as
a superpower, American politics and the Cold War, geopolitical crises, e.g. Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War and
Afghanistan, foreign policy of the USA towards European countries and the European Union, Civil Rights Movement and other social and demographic process in the latter half of the 20th cent. and first decades of the 21st cent., immigration and immigration policy as well as the evolution of the political system. A significant part of the course is to enhance students’ critical analysis of historical processes and their impact on the remaining
interdisciplinary fields of humanities research. |
