Description:
Students in conversation class develop their speaking skills in English at the level CAE/CPE-C1, improve their speech fluency, their degree of correctness and their accent. Students are also engaged in interactive communicative exercises. During lessons, particular attention is paid to the expansion of vocabulary, especially thematic vocabulary, and also (due to the prepared themes) the deepening of students’ linguistic and cultural awareness. During the classes care is also taken to monitor the correct interpretation of linguistic transmissions, and the students should build their ability to express their views on the basis of acquired general knowledge. In the course of the lesson the instructor may make use of various topics, which can enhance discussion, engage students in the assigned tasks, and encourage them to further develop and explore their own interests

Students should prepare for classes by reading the texts set by the instructor, and/or becoming familiar with recommended audio materials, and should then participate actively in the lesson. In the course of a conversation lasting several minutes (either singly with the instructor or together in pairs), students select at random a topic, and/or a picture from prepared sets. They then describe the selected picture, and/or discuss the selected topic, in both cases making comparisons, airing opinions, and including references to wider themes or issues as appropriate. The student receives a positive evaluation if he or she demonstrates a spoken language competence at the level C1.
