Description:
The objective of this course is to broaden the students’ knowledge and develop in them skills necessary to translate specialised texts, especially legal, business and medical texts. Of particular importance is the ability to revise and verify specialised terminology and search for specialised translation equivalents. Students should also possess the knowledge of lexicographical resources and learn how to use and analyze critically parallel texts and accessible Internet sources (data banks, corpora etc.). Students must know how to employ adequate strategies and techniques in the context of specialized translation.

Translation of specialist texts from Polish into English and from English into Polish in classrooms – students must translate a short text chosen by the teacher who then makes a critical analysis of it. Each student is assessed separately and the teacher makes comments on a one-to-one basis about each student’s performance.
