Description: | Students practice simultaneous interpreting, of various texts, in particular legal, medical and economic ones. Students develop the ability to verify and revise specialised terminology and search for equivalents in the context of specialised translation. Students should also possess the knowledge of lexicographical resources and learn how to use and critically analyze parallel texts and accessible Internet sources (data banks, corpora etc.). Students must know how to employ adequate strategies and techniques in the context of simultaneous interpreting. They should also be familiarized with the interpreter's workshop and specific features of consecutive interpreting. Practical classes take place in an interpreting lab. They interpret a variety of texts including but not limited to newspaper and scholarly articles, commercial and literary texts, etc. Students interpret texts from Polish into English and from English into Polish. They work in class (individually, in pairs or in groups). The texts to interpret vary in terms of genre, subject matter and target readership. |
