ECTS credits: 3
Description:
The purpose of the module is to acquaint students with the diversity of plant and animal species and with the variety of plant communities – their value and possibilities for their protection – and the problems of its maintenance and preservation. The student learns the most valuable elements of regional nature (species, plant communities, natural habitats, landscape types) as well as objects and areas protected by law. The aim of the course is to familiarize with the diversity of flora, forest and non-forest vegetation, habitats and fauna in Upper Silesia against the background of other regions of the country. The student becomes familiar with the natural values of Upper Silesia and the changes and threats to plant cover, fauna and habitats occurring at a general level, as well as in detail on the example of objects/areas/sites visited during field visits. The acquired knowledge and skills will contribute to understanding the functioning of nature in conditions of strong anthropopressure and justify the need to preserve and protect its diversity. The module makes it possible to learn the role of both natural and anthropogenic areas in the industrial landscape, their role in preserving the diversity of plants and animals. Provides knowledge about the impact of anthropopressure on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge about the diversity of plants and animals as well as ecology and nature protection.
