Module name: Morphology and anatomy of insects
Module code: 1BL_41a
Programme code: W2-S1BI19.2020
Semester: winter semester 2022/2023
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: course work
ECTS credits: 2
Description:
The module Morphology and anatomy of insects provides knowledge about the diverse structure of imago forms. It allows to learn about the position of insects in the world invertebrate animals and phylogenetic compounds between high-ranking taxa (e.g. orders of insects). The student acquires knowledge about the basics of morphology, anatomy, bionomy of insects, and gets the acquainted with the development and larval stages of insects. During the classes, student learns to recognize the specific characteristics of insect body appendages by imaging them using a scanning and light microscope. Analyzes the functions of body structures and modifications resulting from adaptation processes in different groups of insects. He meets i.a. the genesis and structure of one of the most important locomotive organs - insect wings and has the ability to track changes in their structure from primary to highly advanced form. The student gets familiar with the internal structure of insect organs and gets the ability to insect preparation. He can distinguish between types of insect cycles and indicate groups with holometabolic and hemimetabolic development
Prerequisites:
Knowledge of the main biological concepts, basic evolutionary processes and basics of invertebrate zoology. Passed module exam Zoology - protozoa and invertebrates and field classes in botany and zoology.
