Description:
Intercultural education is a module of academic education which constitutes the general and, at the same time, scientific foundation for the course E-learning management in the culturally diverse environment. The module is aimed at: introducing students to the basics of intercultural communication, which comprises the following types: separating communication (rejecting the new or another, little known, culture as a result of not fulfilling the need of safety and self-acceptance in the initial stage of acquiring the identity); communication imposing the dominating culture on minority cultures (occurring mostly in the language code of the dominating culture and forcing the individual to reject the own cultural heritage); communication supporting the unity of the own Self (characterized by the individual’s egocentric attitude of not “melting” with the new culture as a member of a minority group); communication preventing from hypothetical rejection in the new cultural surroundings (in which the individual, who does not combine cultural components of both language systems, borrows from the new culture some self-selected elements to avoid an inner conflict); integrating communication (combining the values of the different cultures and enabling mutual contacts based on collaboration and shared acting, with the elimination of conflict situations). The contents implemented within the module are also aimed at preparing students for designing and conducting studies in the culturally diverse environment.
Prerequisites:
implementation of the teaching effects of the following modules: selected concepts of contemporary philosophy, education, sociology and psychology
