Opis:
The main topic of the classes is deliberative democracy as one of the main, influential ideas in modern theory of democracy. As an important context for deliberative democracy also some dominant paradigms of democracy will be discussed (like procedural democracy). We will look for reasons for the deliberative turn in the theory of democracy. Classes will focus on the theoretical approach to deliberative democracy as well as on the empirical reality of its implementations. Some particular techniques of deliberative democracy and examples of their use will be analyzed. Deliberative mechanisms will be also discussed in the context of their use in a more traditional setting (for example in liberal representative democracy). Students will be invited to analyze and evaluate the main tenets of deliberative democracy as presented in theory with the empirical reality of their implementation.
Wymagania wstępne:
Students do not need prior knowledge, although basic knowledge on theory of democracy is welcome.
