Description:
The purpose of the course is to present the notion of property in the context of basic human rights, specified, among others, in the ECHR, with particular attention given to concepts prevalent in civil law and common law. Accordingly, the course syllabus covers issues related to property and ownership, as well as possible measures and reasons for restricting property rights, the notion of expropriation and just compensation, the position of international tribunals regarding the protection of property and possibilities to restrict it due to considerations of public interest.

The interactive lectures present key principles and institutions which form the basis for further activities, including active involvement of students. Some topics are prepared by students who present them in class on the basis of information already provided by the lecturer. Solutions adopted in the law are analyzed in discussions of problematic solutions. The ability to find relevant provisions, interpret them and apply them in practice is practiced in case solving (groupwork).
