Description:
The aim of the course is to provide student with knowledge including the structure and function of prokaryotic cells. It presents the principles of microbial metabolism and metabolic diversity as well as certain microbial metabolites, such as toxins and antibiotics. The course also provides information on interactions between microorganisms, plants and animals as well as the impact of environmental factors on the growth and activity of microorganisms. The module presents the mechanisms that enable bacteria to survive in extreme environments; describes the microflora of soil, water and air. This module introduces techniques that are applied in the microbiological laboratory. The laboratories present students how to perform staining procedures of bacteria and their microscopic observations. It teaches the analysis and interpretation of results obtained by the experiments.
