Description:
The aim of the module is to introduce students to contrastive linguists, with special emphasis placed on the contrastive analysis of Polish and English. Students are acquainted with the basic terminology used to describe concepts of contrastive linguistics, with basic types of contrasts between Polish and English (structural, categorical and functional), and basic differences at the level of noun and verb phrases.

The aim of the exam is to check students’ knowledge on the structure of English (with comparison to Polish) and the differences between Polish and English. Very good (5) – a student has the knowledge on the topics covered during the lectures, is able to define them, explain the functioning of given structures and discuss the differences in their realizations in Polish and English. The student provides his/her own examples illustrating a given phenomenon. In addition, a student possess the knowledge that extends beyond the topics covered during the lectures. Good (4) – a student has the knowledge on the topics covered during the lectures, is able to define them, explain the functioning of given structures and discuss the differences in their realizations in Polish and English. Pass (3) - a student has the knowledge on the topics covered during the lectures, is able to define them and discuss the differences in their realizations in Polish and English. Fail (2) - a student has the knowledge on the topics covered during the lectures, is able to define them, but is not able to discuss the differences in their realizations in Polish and English.
