Description:
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic phonetic and phonological descriptions of the English language. Students are acquainted with ways of describing articulation of English vowels and consonants, with variants of English phonemes, with methods of describing differences between British and American English and with phonological processes characteristic of the English language. Students continue learning about other language systems in English, i.e. phonological and morphological systems. Selected phonological processes, basic morphological notions and types of word-formation processes in English are discussed. Phenomena from the phonology-morphology interface are considered.
