Students understand better the problems of grammatical correctness and develop a critical attitude towards alternative analyses of linguistic facts. [NX-S1-GO2-2_K1]

Students can prepare various forms of written assignments, presentations and speeches in English, concerning linguistic issues. [NX-S1-GO2-2_U2]

Students are aware of the existence of different theoretical perspectives. They can critically analyse alternative descriptions of a given linguistic phenomenon. [NX-S1-GO2-2_U3]

Students have a detailed knowledge of the methods of syntactic analysis of sentences. [NX-S1-GO2-2_W1]

Students have the knowledge of a basic terminology in the English language (concerning syntax). [NX-S1-GO2-2_W2]

Written tests are conducted throughout the semester, as well as at the end of the semester. 5 – student has broad knowledge of the subject (which goes beyond the issues discussed during lectures and classes). The student fully understands issues discussed and can describe them in his/her own words (giving relevant examples). 4 – the student has good knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes (which does not go beyond the material presented by the lecturer). 3 – the student has sufficient knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes, but does not fully understands their complexity. 2 – the student has poor knowledge of issues discussed during lectures and classes, s/he does not understand the issues discussed, and does not know linguistic terminology.

The assessment includes the student’s oral presentations and participation during classes, his/her homework and preparation for classes, and ability to solve problems, as well as to work individually or in groups.

The final exam: The final exam is a written or oral test, according to the examiner’s decision. It covers the material indicated by the examiner (according to the content of the lectures and the classes). The student should display knowledge of the subject (concerning English syntax), know linguistic terminology and understand the issues discussed.

Lecture: expository multimedia lecture, participatory lecture

Student workload: selfstudy (with the use of lecture notes and other course materials), consulting the lecturer.

Classes: expository method (explaining particular topics); interactive teaching method (problem-solving, brainstorming, class discussion)

Student workload: selfstudy (using the course books or other course materials), preparation for classes and written tests, preparing class presentations, consulting the lecturer.
