Description:
The aim of the first series of lectures and classes in History of British Literature is to provide first-year students with an outline of English literature from its earliest, Anglo-Saxon, period to the Restauration of monarchy. The lectures present historical and cultural background as well as relations of influential texts and writers with other phenomena and figures important for English literature and culture. The lectures also survey main cultural and literary currents as well as ways they are related to major English literary texts. The lectures are complemented by classes during which students work with the most important and influential literary texts of relevant periods.
