Description:
unit „major events in the history of life on Earth” aims to introduce students to major stages of prehistory of life on our planet, recorded not so much as fossils, but mostly as structures and processes present in living organisms, inherited from our ancient ancestors, which lived in environments very different from those recorded in the Phanerozoic (=today!); the knowledge acquired in the present unit (module) is of primary importance both for * evaluation of processes which generated and then allowed for preservation of some ancient structures and processes in living beings (deterministic or non-deterministic? emergence of new structures and processes, based on ancient foundations, in environments changed also by living beings), but also for ** critical evaluation of meaning of current environmental change for survival of our civilization, human race, and life on Earth as a whole, *** probability of finding life at other planets

knowledge of systematical paleontology, paleoecology, and historical geology; medium-level fluency in English
