Condensed Phase Physicochemistry Field of study: Biophysics
Programme code: W4-S1BF19.2025

Module name: Condensed Phase Physicochemistry
Module code: W4-BF-FA-S1-4-23-27
Programme code: W4-S1BF19.2025
Semester: summer semester 2026/2027
Language of instruction: Polish
Form of verification: exam
ECTS credits: 4
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module is designed to familiarize the student with the basic concepts related to the physics of condensed phases. The student learns the molecular basis of condensed matter, i.e. polymorphism, amorphism, complex fluids: mesophases and polymers, as well as the classification and mechanism of phase transitions. The student understands van der Waals theories, as well as distributions and Boltzmann partition functions. The student is able to carry out basic calculations related to solutions and their miscibility, viscoelasticity of single and multi-component systems, and construct phase diagrams of binary systems based on experimental data.
List of modules that must be completed before starting this module (if necessary): not applicable
Learning outcome of the module Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5]
The student is able to describe the phases of single-component molecular systems, and the main experimental techniques available to study molecular dynamics and phase transitions. [E1]
