Celem modułu jest: 1) Przedstawienie geografii i chronologii Bizancjum; 2) Przedstawienie wybranych zagadnień z bizantyńskiej historii politycznej, ekonomicznej, społecznej i kulturowej; 3) Wykazanie trwałości dziedzictwa bizantyńskiego w świecie współczesnym.
