Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module will present fundamental developments in technology from the industrial revolutions of the 18th century to the present day. Among the topics covered in the lecture will be the steam engine, the extraction of coal and other raw materials, the process of coking coal, railways, electricity, new media, atomic energy, and techniques of information transmission. An important element of the course will be discussion of the cultural aspects of the discoveries in technology: texts that record the hopes and fears of technological innovation. As part of the classes, students will interpret works from the history of ideas, the history of literature, painting and printmaking, as well as film and photography. A broad selection of problems and texts will allow to explore the idea of the culture of technology - the complex connections between the humanistic world and technologies.
