Fundamentals of Cell Biology Field of study: Medical Physics
Programme code: W4-S1FM19.2023

Module name: Fundamentals of Cell Biology
Module code: W4-FM-S1-1-23-06
Programme code: W4-S1FM19.2023
Semester: winter semester 2023/2024
Language of instruction: Polish
Form of verification: exam
ECTS credits: 3
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The purpose of the module is to show the cell as the basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms. During the course, students will deepen their knowledge of cell types, cell organelles, their functions, the life cycle of the cell, processes of cell differentiation and the pathways leading to cell ageing and death. The students will also acquire knowledge of cell-cell interactions and interactions between the cell and the extracellular matrix and signal transduction pathways in the cell.
List of modules that must be completed before starting this module (if necessary): not applicable
Learning outcome of the module Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5]
The student knows and understands the structure of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell, and the functions and differences resulting from the structure. [E1]
W01 [1/5] W04 [1/5] W05 [1/5]
The student is capable of describing the course of intracellular processes and the interaction of organelles, as well as analyzing cellular mechanisms that project the functions of the whole multicellular organism. [E2]
W05 [1/5] U01 [1/5]
Students can describe the stages that make up the cell dividing cycle and characterize the types of cell death. [E3]
W01 [1/5] W05 [1/5]
Student is capable of discussing the types of communication between cells, between the cell and the extracellular matrix, and signal transduction pathways in the cell. [E4]
U01 [1/5]
Students can acquire information from scientific literature, databases and other sources on a selected topic; they can integrate the data obtained, interpret them and draw conclusions. [E5]
U08 [1/5] K01 [1/5]
