SPECIALIZATION CHARACTERISTICS: Computer Assisted Translation and Translation for Specific Purposes in French are complementary master's studies. They are addressed to those who associate their professional career with the practical use of French, eg. in translation offices, diplomatic missions, cultural and research institutions, publishing houses, companies cooperating with foreign partners, tourism, etc. Apart from practical knowledge of French and a second foreign language, the curriculum also incorporates such subjects as the history of literature and civilization of France and the Franco-Swiss countries, a linguistic module and a translation module offering specialized translation classes (such as translation of EU documents, translation of scientific or press texts, or translation of media products) and computer-assisted translation classes. The aforementioned selection of subjects allows students to become proficient speakers of French and to be fluent in the second language, both in speech and in writing. The students also gain thorough knowledge of the functioning the functioning of the French language system and about the culture and literature of France and the countries of the French language area. In addition, they acquire the ability to use the most important translation techniques and new technologies in the work texts, in communication and in translation. These competences entitle graduates of the French language specialization with specialized and computer-assisted translation programs to take up jobs requiring such qualifications as: mastery of core EU languages, general knowledge of EU countries and high language and translation skills.
