General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education:
Studia drugiego stopnia na kierunku Informacja naukowa i bibliotekoznawstwo to program kształcenia, który łączy tradycyjne wartości bibliotekoznawstwa i bibliologii z wyzwaniami współczesnego świata cyfrowego. Program studiów został zaprojektowany tak, by przygotować specjalistów, którzy swobodnie poruszają się zarówno w świecie tradycyjnych zbiorów, jak i nowoczesnych zasobów i usług, z wykorzystaniem technologii informacyjnych. W toku studiów studenci poznają współczesny rynek książki, nowe formy publikacji czy zasady ochrony dóbr kultury. Szczególną uwagę poświęca się wykorzystaniu najnowszych technologii - od digitalizacji zbiorów, przez świadczenie usług informacyjnych po zastosowanie sztucznej inteligencji w instytucjach kultury. W zależności od swoich zainteresowań, studenci mogą wybrać blok tematyczny w zakresie designu i dziedzictwa książki lub nowoczesnej biblioteki. Pierwsza opcja dedykowana jest osobom zainteresowanym historycznym i artystycznym wymiarem książki, rynkiem wydawniczym. Druga natomiast tym, którzy chcą skupić się na współczesnych aspektach funkcjonowania bibliotek. Istotnym elementem kształcenia jest rozwój kompetencji badawczych, rozwijanych w trakcie seminariów magisterskich, opanowanie metodologii badań humanistycznych oraz warsztaty redagowania tekstu naukowego. Studenci poznają aktualne kierunki badawcze w zakresie nauk o kulturze, bibliotekoznawstwa, bibliologii i informatologii, co pozwala im planować własne projekty badawcze. Program uwzględnia również aspekty etyczne i prawne, takie jak ochrona własności intelektualnej czy etyka w działalności bibliotecznej i informacyjnej. Studia kształcą specjalistów przygotowanych do podejmowania wyzwań współczesnego społeczeństwa informacyjnego, łączących szacunek dla kultury i tradycji z otwartością na innowacje technologiczne i społeczne. Absolwenci są przygotowani do pełnienia różnych ról w instytucjach kultury, prowadzenia działalności badawczej oraz realizacji zaawansowanych zadań z zakresu organizacji pracy bibliotek, wydawnictw i innych instytucji związanych z książką, informacją i wiedzą.
Graduation requirements:
The condition for admission to the diploma examination is to achieve the learning outcomes provided for in the study program, to obtain a certificate of an appropriate level of language proficiency in a foreign language and to obtain positive grades for the diploma dissertation. The condition for graduation is to pass the diploma examination with at least a satisfactory result. A graduate receives a higher education diploma confirming obtaining the qualifications of the appropriate degree. Detailed rules of the diploma process and the requirements for the diploma thesis are set out in the Rules and Regulations of Studies at the University of Silesia and the diploma regulations.
Internships (hours and conditions):
Internships are an integral part of the study program, carried out by students in individual fields, levels, profiles and forms of study. Internships are to help in confronting the knowledge acquired during studies with the requirements of the labour market, acquiring skills useful in the profession, learning about practical issues related to working in positions for which the student is prepared during the course of studies. The internship is to familiarize the student with professional language relevant to a specific industry and work culture. The rules for the organization of internships are set out in the Rector's ordinance. Detailed rules of apprenticeship taking into account the specifics of particular fields of study are set out in the field's of study apprenticeship regulations, in particular: learning outcomes assumed to be achieved by the student during the apprenticeship, framework apprenticeship program including a description of issues, dimension of apprenticeship (number of weeks of practice); form of internship (continuous, mid-year), criteria for choosing the place of internship, obligations of the student staying in the internship, obligations of the academic tutor, conditions for completing the internship by the student and conditions for exemption from the internship obligation in whole or in part. The number of ECTS and the number of hours are specified in the course structure.

Program studiów drugiego stopnia na kierunku Informacja naukowa i bibliotekoznawstwo jest ściśle powiązany ze strategią rozwoju Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach oraz odpowiada na aktualne potrzeby społeczno-gospodarcze otoczenia uczelni. Kształcenie na kierunku wpisuje się w misję uczelni poprzez łączenie tradycji z nowoczesnością oraz przygotowanie specjalistów zdolnych sprostać wyzwaniom współczesnego społeczeństwa informacyjnego. Kadra Instytutu, współpracując z organizacjami międzynarodowymi (ISKO, OPERAS), krajowymi oraz regionalnymi (Zarządem Głównym oraz regionalnymi kołami SBP, PTB, PTIN, PTCz, ZNP Sekcją Bibliotekarską, radami programowymi bibliotek), bibliotekami naukowymi, muzeami, wydawnictwami, archiwami, zapewnia zgodność programu z aktualnymi trendami rozwoju dyscypliny i potrzebami rynku pracy. Studia odpowiadają na potrzeby społeczno-gospodarcze m.in. przez: - rozwijanie kompetencji w zakresie ochrony i digitalizacji dziedzictwa kulturowego - przygotowanie do projektowania nowoczesnych usług informacyjnych i bibliotecznych - budowanie kompetencji w zakresie etycznego, prawnego i społecznego wymiaru działalności instytucji kultury Program studiów jest zgodny z najnowszymi standardami kompetencji bibliotekarskich określonymi przez polskie i światowe stowarzyszenia bibliotekarskie, obejmując kluczowe obszary takie jak etyka zawodowa, zarządzanie zasobami informacji, organizacja wiedzy i zbiorów, technologie informacyjne oraz usługi biblioteczne i informacyjne.
