| General characteristics of the field of study and the assumed concept of education: | Pedagogy as a science of upbringing and education combines two perspectives: the humanistic one, focusing on the essence of upbringing, teaching, and learning, and the social one, concerning educational environments, systems of educational and care institutions, their fusion, and importance in human development. The study program in the field of pedagogy is assigned to a scientific activity in the discipline of pedagogy (field of social sciences).
The studies are the first stage of preparation for the profession of a special education teacher in a specific field (social rehabilitation pedagogy or pedagogical therapy) in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Notice of the Minister of Education and Science of April 6, 2021, on the announcement of the uniform text of the regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education on the standard education preparing for the teaching profession, Annex 3, Journal of Laws Laws of May 12, 2021, item 890).
From the third semester, the student chooses one of the specializations offered: social rehabilitation pedagogy with penitentiary or care and educational pedagogy and pedagogical therapy. Classes are conducted in Polish; Selected classes in English are also offered. Specialized education is supplemented with area modules and generally available university modules offered to all people studying at the University of Silesia. |

| Graduation requirements: | The condition for admission to the diploma examination is to achieve the learning outcomes provided for in the study program, to obtain a certificate of an appropriate level of language proficiency in a foreign language and to obtain positive grades for the diploma dissertation. The condition for graduation is to pass the diploma examination with at least a satisfactory result. A graduate receives a higher education diploma confirming obtaining the qualifications of the appropriate degree.

Przyjęcie od roku akademickiego 2024/2025 efektów uczenia się na kierunku pedagogika, planu studiów oraz modułów zbudowanych o najnowsze standardy kształcenia nauczycieli (nauczyciel pedagog specjalny w specjalnościowych zakresach) wynika z realizacji zadań określonych w Strategii rozwoju Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach na lata 2020-2025, tj.
- prowadzenia monitoringu oferty dydaktycznej (stan docelowy P8 Strategii), w wyniku którego postanowiono dokonać zmian w programie studiów pierwszego stopnia na kierunku pedagogika w oparciu o Nową Koncepcję Studiów w Uniwersytecie Śląskim w Katowicach.
- oferta dydaktyczna UŚ w dużej części spójna z priorytetowymi obszarami badawczymi, np. POB 1: Harmonijny rozwój człowieka – troska o ochronę zdrowia i jakość życia; (stan docelowy O6 Strategii). Absolwent kierunku, to nauczyciel pedagog specjalny kształcący i wychowujący uczniów o specjalnych potrzebach edukacyjnych oraz osoby dorosłe, które z różnych powodów doświadczają wykluczenia społecznego. Jego działalność służy włączeniu osób z różnymi deficytami społecznymi, zdrowotnymi, edukacyjnymi do harmonijnego funkcjonowania w społeczeństwie.

| Specialization: | Care-Educational Pedagogy and Pedagogical Therapy |

| General description of the specialization: | The specialization aims to prepare students, among others: to diagnose educational and care situations, use various methods of care and educational work as well as corrective and compensatory work, and conduct specialist and preventive activities, including providing support to children, students, their families, guardians and teachers working with children at risk of specific learning difficulties and students with such difficulties. The studies prepare students to recognize the individual needs of students, analyze the causes of difficulties both in the school and family environment, and equip them with a wide range of possible professional interventions in the educational group and school class, as well as individual work. |
| Internships (hours and conditions): | Internships are an integral part of the study program, carried out by students in individual fields, levels, profiles and forms of study. Internships are to help in confronting the knowledge acquired during studies with the requirements of the labour market, acquiring skills useful in the profession, learning about practical issues related to working in positions for which the student is prepared during the course of studies. The internship is to familiarize the student with professional language relevant to a specific industry and work culture.
The rules for the organization of internships are set out in the Rector's ordinance. Detailed rules of apprenticeship taking into account the specifics of particular fields of study are set out in the field's of study apprenticeship regulations, in particular: learning outcomes assumed to be achieved by the student during the apprenticeship, framework apprenticeship program including a description of issues, dimension of apprenticeship (number of weeks of practice); form of internship (continuous, mid-year), criteria for choosing the place of internship, obligations of the student staying in the internship, obligations of the academic tutor, conditions for completing the internship by the student and conditions for exemption from the internship obligation in whole or in part.

| Specialization: | Social Rehabilitation and Treatment in Prison |
|---|---|
| General description of the specialization: | During their studies, students become acquainted with the scientific achievements of social rehabilitation pedagogy, its areas (from the diagnosis of social maladjustment and psychological and pedagogical assistance in schools and other early intervention institutions, through the methodology and implemented social rehabilitation programs in open and closed environments, to work with the family), and also with contemporary phenomena in the field of social pathology, especially crime (juveniles and adults). The education program includes content on executive criminal law and juvenile law. In addition, students learn the forms of care, educational, therapeutic, and social assistance provided to people both at the early stage of conduct disorder (prevention of crime and demoralization) and at later stages (institutional correction and after-release custody). |
