Description: | The course of Poetry and Poetics aims at making a student be familiar with the poetic language, and the whole range of norms and linguistic media which characterize belles-lettres, especially poetry. The dominant feature of poetry is the aesthetic function of language. The language of poetry differs from other kinds of literary discourse in being original (innovative and unique), extraordinary, deprived of accepted schemes, characteristic of sophisticated articulation, rhythm, meter (feet), parallelisms, metaphoricity, multivocality of phrases, or uniqueness of utterances. The poetic language is possessed with its own “grammar of creation” by which it differs from colloquialism. Poetics, in turn, describes all principal terms such as text, narration as a kind of knowledge, composition (also musical) and its qualities, prosody, differences between lyrics, poetry and verse and explains what is the art of verse. It demonstrates the word in acting, space and time in a literary text, stylistic means, intertextuality and defines several other phenomena typical for poetic texts. |
