Description: | The objective is to familiarize the students with the tools used in the description of language and of linguistic competences in native speakers. Classes focus on the description of the semantic and pragmatic components or, in the other option, on discourse analysis. In class, students learn about the mechanisms of realization of the semantic knowledge in the context of use. Students distinguish between meaning types, ranging from literal meanings, through contextualized explicatures to speaker-intented implicatures; separate propositions from non-truth conditional meanings. Students can identify elements such as, for example, lexical relations (synonymy, complementarity, antonymy, etc.), can recognize types of ambiguity (structural vs. lexical). In the course of discourse analysis class, students learn about the properties and types of discourse. |
