Description:
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the issues of translation of literary or cultural texts and to develop practical skills necessary for their translation. At seminars students get to know major translation theories, specificity of texts to be translated and basic translation principles. An important element of the course is an analysis of original texts and the development of skills necessary for a correction of the final translation. Students get to know the whole translation processes and they learn how to use translator’s tools, how to plan their work effectively and how to use their linguistic competence. The module requires that students should be able to integrate their knowledge of translation studies with the knowledge of literature and/or culture to preserve artistic integrity of original texts.
