Description:
The aim of the module is to improve students' practical English skills in terms of fluency of speech, language correctness, and pronunciation. It introduces basic techniques of effective verbal communication and the principles of constructing logical and coherent arguments. The module also emphasises interactive communication skills such as active listening techniques and extracting key information. The module pays attention to developing students' range of vocabulary and language structures and building their linguistic and cultural awareness.

The instructor makes use of various techniques to encourage students to take an active part in the classes: discussions, debates, games, presentations, essays, panel discussions, and individual and group exercises. Furthermore, use is made of visual aids, both pictures and (to the extent suitable) objects, and authentic press articles, speeches, etc.; moreover multimedia sources are also used: films, songs, and audio recordings of debates and interviews.
