Module name: | Introduction to pathophysiology |
---|---|
Module code: | 1BT_39A |
Programme code: | W2-S1BT19.2020 |
Semester: | summer semester 2022/2023 |
Language of instruction: | Polish |
Form of verification: | course work |
ECTS credits: | 3 |
Description: | The AIM of this course is to get knowledge on the body functioning during disease (pathophysiology) and the basis of pharmacology, including production, action and registration of drugs. LECTURES include a review of disorders of homeostasis, the most important molecular targets of drugs and physiological limits significantly influencing their bioavailability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. EXERCISES teach students find reliable information on the pathophysiology and pharmacology, their processing and presentation in the classroom. An important part of training is the use of virtual labs, videos and animations, allowing zoom issues unavailable for the direct observation. OWN WORK – using manuals and online sources of data, including the recommended virtual laboratories - uses to prepare for the laboratory classes, ongoing tests and final credit. |
Prerequisites: | Knowledge and skills in cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology and animal physiology, allowing the understanding of the discussed pathophysiological and pharmacological issues. |
Key reading: | see syllabus compulsory reading |
Learning outcome of the module | Codes of the learning outcomes of the programme to which the learning outcome of the module is related [level of competence: scale 1-5] |
---|---|
Students can perceive the interrelationships between chemical and biological processes relevant to the pathophysiology, and are able to classify and describe - using the correct terminology - pathological processes occurring in the body, and their effects and - in consequence - properly understand the issues of the pharmaceutical biotechnology. [1BT_39_01] |
1BT_W01_P [5/5] |
Students understand and can explain the theoretical basis of the biotech - medicines production; are able to choose a reliable source of information about the drug biotechnology and use them to prepare presentations demanded during classes and in the process of self-education. [1BT_39_02] |
1BT_W03_P [1/5] |
Students perform microbiological, biotechnological & pathophysiological data synthesis, and can draw conclusions from the mentioned synthesis to understand the limitations of the drug action (its specific formula, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics). [1BT_39_03] |
1BT_W08_P [3/5] |
Potrafi sporządzić, z zastosowaniem podstawowych metod obliczeniowych, protokół z przeprowadzonych obserwacji i pomiarów
fizjologicznych [1BT_39_04] |
1BT_W09_P [1/5] |
They use - critically - the source of pharmacological information, including Internet; are able to estimate the reliability of information based on its source and use the above information in the process of self-education. [1BT_39_05] |
1BT_U02_P [3/5] |
