Structural biochemistry Field of study: Biotechnology
Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2020

Module name: Structural biochemistry
Module code: 1BT_56A
Programme code: W2-S1BT19.2020
Semester: summer semester 2020/2021
Language of instruction: depending on the choice
Form of verification: course work
ECTS credits: 2
Description:
The main objective of this module is to acquaint students with the structures of amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, lipids and coenzymes. This knowledge will be helpful to understand the role of macromolecules in the organisation of pro- and eukaryotic cells as well as their functions. The student acquires manual skills in laboratory work and improves the ability to analyze, interpret and report the obtained results. This course explores and develops key analytical skills that students need in order to succeed in expanding theoretical knowledge about the construction of basic macromolecules and their role in the cell functioning.
Prerequisites:
General knowledge of biology, chemistry (inorganic and organic), mathematics and physics.
