  • winter semester 2017/2018
Language of instruction: Polish
Form of verification: course work
ECTS credits: 4
Description:
In this module students become acquainted with knowledge in the area of the plant cytogenetics: structure and function of plant cell nuclei, mitotic chromosome structure, types of chromosomes, techniques of chromosome staining. Students possess skills to interpret and discuss issues connected with genome size evolution and karyotype evolution. Students become familiar with the basic cytogenetic methods: chromosome spread preparation, chromosome staining methods (e.g. Feulgen reaction, selected chromosome banding methods), karyogram and ideogram preparation, genome size estimation. During laboratory lessons students develop the skills in interpreting and discussing results of published cytogenetic experiments in field of genome evolution. Students become acquainted with application of cytogenetic methods in biotechnological applications. Module available at the semester 5 and 6.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge from the field of basic genetics and cell biology.
