Purpose and description of the content of education: | As part of the module, students will gain knowledge about the history, principles of organisation and functioning of historical book collections, as an important element of cultural heritage, taken in the context of, among others, the historical context (including the history of the book), knowledge about culture and art. Implementing the module will allow for learning about the cultural history of libraries of various types in Poland and around the world, including the characteristics of the model of building a heritage collection (collecting, developing, storing, making available and preserving collections). Characteristic features of different types of book collections will be presented (e.g. libraries of the church, rulers, private, foundation or public). The most important architectural styles, iconographic programs, and library equipment will be discussed, as well as examples of historical book collections that are important for Europe's cultural heritage. In addition, students will learn about the reconstruction methods of historical book collections and their use in scientific research. While expanding their knowledge, they will deepen their terminology in the scope of the issues discussed. They will be able to evaluate the subject literature and identify cultural products critically. |

Students have their knowledge about the functioning of historical book collections, their creators, and their users, as well as their role in the processes of communication and the creation of cultural heritage. They will learn from a chronological and problematic perspective the types of libraries, models of their creation and architectural styles used in the construction and equipment of libraries throughout history.
