Purpose and description of the content of education:
As part of this module, students will gain knowledge of publishing practices both at the level of publishing house organisation and within self-publishing activities. In addition, the module discusses the external environment that influences publishing operations, including the book fair calendar, relationships with authors, and reading trends. The practical component focuses on the process of shaping and developing both traditional and electronic books, as well as new formats such as convergent and personalised publications. Students will analyse different types of editions, identifying the stages involved in their preparation – in particular, content editing, technical development, and the principles of printing, distribution, and publishing marketing. The aim of the module is to familiarise students with current trends in the publishing market, the organisation of work and professional practices in a modern publishing house, and to support their understanding of the application of publishing standards and formal requirements in both individual and team-based work.
