Purpose and description of the content of education:
As part of the module, students acquire knowledge in the field of cultural heritage protection in libraries. Potential threats and disasters are analyzed (natural: flooding, fires; human-related: theft, war-related and terrorist threats), along with strategies for minimizing their consequences, including evacuation procedures. The module also addresses issues related to organizing appropriate climate conditions for the storage of valuable collections. Students will develop skills in the use of analytical and instrumental methods applied in preventive conservation activities as well as in protective bookbinding work. The aim of the module is to prepare students for the practical application of acquired knowledge – selecting appropriate methods and tools for the protection of collections in libraries and other cultural institutions. This objective is achieved through the use of activating teaching methods, particularly through practical classes.
