Purpose and description of the content of education:
As part of the module, students will gain knowledge in the field of biology, biodeterioration, microbiology, entomology and protection of collections from biological destruction. They will learn about the mechanisms of degradation of cultural heritage materials by microorganisms and pests and methods of their identification. They will acquire skills in using physicochemical methods in combating living organisms, such as bacteria or fungi, and in protecting materials from their effects. The aim of the course is to prepare students for practical application of the acquired knowledge in conservation activities, taking into account the specificity of conservation materials and techniques.
