Purpose and description of the content of education:
The module presents the library as a dynamic institution of contemporary culture, actively participating in the creation and circulation of cultural meanings. Particular emphasis is placed on the culture-creating potential of libraries as a community, inclusive and animating space, operating in the context of social and media transformations. The roles of the library as a “third place”, a laboratory for participatory culture and an environment that supports cultural and social capital are analysed. Students are introduced to the library as an institution for intercultural dialogue, non-formal education and local cultural memory. The module focuses on the social and cultural dimensions of the contemporary library.
