Purpose and description of the content of education:
W ramach modułu student zapoznaje się z rozmaitymi formami muzyki dwudziestowiecznej, zarówno z kręgu muzyki zwanej poważną, jak i z kręgu muzyki zwanej popularną. Poznaje wybitnych kompozytorów muzyki XX wieku od Arnolda Schoenberga i Igora Strawińskiego, przez Jeana Sibeliusa, Dymitra Szostakowicza do Benjamina Brittena i Philipa Glassa (nazwiska wymienione dla przykładu), lecz również wybitnych twórców muzyki popularnej. Poznaje różnorodne odmiany muzyki XX wieku: od folku i jazzu do musicalu i rocka. Na konkretnych przykładach analizuje skalę zastosowań, jakie muzyka znajduje w filmie, np. sposób w jaki Stanley Kubrick wykorzystuje muzykę Ryszarda Straussa i Gyorgy Ligetiego w 2001 – Odyseji kosmicznej czy sposób w jaki Luchino Visconti stosuje w Śmierci w Wenecji muzykę Gustawa Mahlera. Zajęcia z muzyki współczesnej mają również za zadanie zorientować studenta we współczesnym bogatym i urozmaiconym życiu muzycznym. Ogólnym celem zajęć jest uwrażliwienie studenta na muzykę jako taką, ale również na kapitalną rolę jaką spełnia ona w kinie.
