Purpose and description of the content of education:
Kurs przeznaczony jest dla reżyserów montujących własne filmy. Kompetentny reżyser musi rozumieć montaż bardziej z wizualnego niż technicznego punktu widzenia. Innymi słowy, nie jest niezbędne, by wiedział, jak działa program do montażu (choć jest to pożądane), lecz musi być świadomy sposobu, w jaki wszystkie ujęcia będą ze sobą połączone i jaki to będzie dawać efekt. Doświadczenie nabyte przy samodzielnym montowaniu filmów, a także innych przekazów audiowizualnych pozytywnie wpływa na pracę reżysera podczas pracy nad scenariuszem/scenopisem i na planie oraz na jego myślenie reżyserskie: wie lepiej, gdzie postawić kamerę , by wyeliminować problemy na stole montażowym, dba o to, by pozycje i ruchy aktorów zgadzały się w montowanych ze sobą ujęciach, wyczuwa wreszcie (i zleca to operatorowi), kiedy nagrać przebitki i zabezpieczające ujęcia dodatkowe, pomocne później w rozwiązywaniu problemów montażowych lub w celu wymiany ujęć, które mogą się nie sprawdzić. Kurs ma na celu uświadomienie studentom reżyserii, jak istotna jest – zapewniana przez montaż - integracja technicznych, estetycznych i narracyjnych aspektów przekazu audiowizualnego w jednolitą całość. W dwóch kolejnych modułach studenci analizują znaczenie rytmu w montażu w odniesieniu do sceny, sekwencji i całego filmu, uczą się zasad montażu w kinie gatunkowym i ich zależności od struktury narracyjnej, w szczególności zasad montażu kontekstowego w komedii i montażu syntetycznego w kinie akcji. Rozwijają znajomość i umiejętności związane z montażem form telewizyjnych i reklamowych

Student zna ogólne prawidła dotyczące montażu: funkcje poszczególnych planów wynikające z ich wielkości i ruchu, analizujące i syntetyzujące sposoby łączenia ujęć, zna zakres i rodzaje błędów jakie można popełnić w montażu oraz zna reguły montażu rozmaitych form telewizyjnych (sceny taneczne, teledysk, koncert) i spotów reklamowych [MON4a_1]
