Purpose and description of the content of education: | Humanities module I aims to deepen students' reflection on the philosophical foundations of contemporary geography and the ethical dimensions of geographical research and practice. The course introduces key trends in geographical thought, with particular emphasis on humanistic, critical perspectives that expand the traditional understanding of space, place and landscape. Various research paradigms in human geography are analyzed, their ontological and epistemological assumptions, as well as their impact on the way spatial problems are conceptualized and solved. An important element of the module is the discussion on the role of values and engagement in geographical research. Students will become familiar with the issues of ethics of spatial research, the responsibility of a geographer in the context of global challenges (such as climate change, social inequalities, sustainable development) and ethical aspects of using modern geoinformation technologies and AI. Students learn about the development of European culture in terms of different categories of culture as well as the formation of cultural space (regions, borderlands, multicultural cities) and the issue of cultural identity in a globalizing world. |
