Purpose and description of the content of education: | The Urbanization and metropolisation of post-industrial regions module is intended to familiarize students with the issues of the development of cities and urbanized areas in the world, including metropolitan centers. During lectures, special emphasis will be placed on the changes taking place in areas where intensive industrialization and related urbanization took place in the past. Students will become familiar with the functional and spatial changes that are currently taking place in post-industrial regions as a result of globalization processes and the revolution in access to databases and information. As part of the exercises, they will become familiar with the new functions that determine the formation of metropolises. They will also attempt to assess the level of advancement of urbanization processes taking place in specific areas of former mining and traditional industry, and to evaluate these areas in terms of the possibilities of developing new service functions, including primarily metropolitan functions. |
