Physics in Calculation-Based Problems

Module name: Physics in Calculation-Based Problems
Module code: KN-F-S2-FwZ
Language of instruction: Polish
Form of verification: course work
ECTS credits: 1
Purpose and description of the content of education:
The aim of the workshop is to develop the ability to practically apply the principles of physics, previously acquired in other courses, to solving real-world problems. During the course, students will enhance their skills in analytical thinking, independently identifying the core aspects of physical phenomena, selecting appropriate computational methods, and critically analyzing results. Students will become familiar with various types of physics exam problems, including both closed-ended tasks (single- and multiple-choice questions, true/false statements, matching tasks) and open-ended tasks, with particular emphasis on problems based on the analysis of excerpts from popular science articles. The content of this module is aligned with the current extended core curriculum for physics in upper-secondary education in Poland, as well as with the latest examination requirements for the national secondary school-leaving exam (Matura). As part of the course, students will solve exam-type physics problems, covering both the Polish Matura and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Physics exam. The tasks will span fundamental areas of physics, including mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, optics, and modern physics. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of skills in translating verbal problem descriptions into mathematical models, ensuring mathematical and logical correctness of solutions, as well as the ability to independently create diagnostic test materials.
