Purpose and description of the content of education: | In this module, students will gain knowledge on the culture and history of the manuscript book from antiquity to the Middle Ages, including the evolution of writing and the book, as well as the institutions associated with it in various cultural circles. They will learn about the development of manuscript books, calligraphic and illuminator schools, types of bindings, and the formation of the xylographic book and the structure of incunabula, along with the characteristics of typographic centers in the early printing era. Students will correctly use terminology related to the topics discussed and will be able to critically assess the literature on the subject. Completion of the module should develop awareness of the responsibility for preserving the cultural heritage associated with the written word. |
