Purpose and description of the content of education:
This module invites students to engage critically with selected key texts that have shaped, and continue to shape, thought and critique by English-speaking thinkers. Through a selection of readings from philosophy, cultural theory and other forms of scholarly inquiry, possibly inluding also readings in empirical sciences, the course explores how English has functioned both as a medium of communication and a site of ideological contestation. While the lectures offer an overview of selected texts, their contexts and significance, in discussion classes emphasis is placed on developing interpretive, analytical, and reflective skills, while also encouraging students to connect abstract theoretical concerns with real-world cultural and social phenomena.
