The program also includes education of patients in the field of proper use of lenses and cooperation with doctors in the event of the need to refer the patient to another specialist.
Training content:
1. Lectures:
• Construction and types of contact lenses.
• Selection of contact lenses to suit the patient's individual needs.
• Contact lens care: principles and techniques.
• Advantages and disadvantages of contact lenses.
• Indications and contraindications for wearing contact lenses.
• Types of contact lenses.
• Complications associated with wearing contact lenses.
2. Laboratory exercises:

• Performing a qualifying examination for wearing contact lenses, including an assessment of the patient's general health conditions.
• Preparing patient medical records.
• Carrying out tests of visual acuity and visual defects for distance and near.
• Selection and application of appropriate contact lenses, taking into account the anatomical aspect of the anterior segment of the eye.
• Slit-lamp examination, particularly evaluation of the anterior segment of the eye.
• Application of eye fundus examination techniques using a slit lamp.
The module is in the form of lectures and laboratory exercises. Lectures, which introduce the theoretical foundations and issues related to contactology. Laboratory exercises, during which students gain practical skills in conducting an interview with a patient, qualifying them to wear contact lenses and conducting the necessary diagnostic tests. Students also learn how to select contact lenses, assess the patient's health condition and monitor complications related to the use of lenses. Additionally, students prepare the patient's medical documentation and use specialist contactology equipment, including a slit lamp to assess the anterior segment of the eye.
To pass the practical part, the student prepares a case presentation and submits a summary of the patient examination cards along with a summary of the number of contactology patients examined.
The student, as part of his/her own work, supplements his/her knowledge based on lecture notes and additional literature. He/she strives to consolidate the knowledge acquired and improve practical skills in the field of contactology.
The module ends with an exam, which includes a theoretical and practical part, testing skills related to lens selection, conducting contact examinations, and recognizing and dealing with complications related to contact lens use. To pass the practical part, the student prepares a case presentation and submits a summary of the cards of contact examinations performed on patients. |
